Digital Media
As you have probably gathered, I have a conflicted relationship with digital media. On the one hand its part of my job, I've painstakingly been cataloguing 20 years worth of a magazine, on the other hand it took me 9 months to learn ctrl click on a Mac mouse. Truthfully though, that's what makes this such an exciting subject. The newness and adventure of a subject that hasn't already been completely mined of all it's intellectual gold is far too tempting to pass up.

To enable right click on a mac go to System Preferences which you can access through the Apple menu, click Mouse, and then on the right hand side of the mouse you can modify its action - select Secondary Click. I think right click is an invaluable tool in the mac world still :).
ReplyDeleteI must confess I am rather interested in your responses to the course - you're approaching it from the polar opposite that I am and I think it will be fascinating.
Sam
Yeah, there has certainly been some stubbornness on the part of Apple over the years - it took a long time to get round to coming up with sensible (one-handed) solutions to the right-click thing: and still they refer to it as a "secondary" rather than right click. (Surely Microsoft hasn't patented that phrase, has it?) I'd describe my relationship with Macs (got my first one nearly 20 years ago) as "conflicted", actually!
ReplyDeleteSam your response gave me an Oprah "Aha" moment, almost cried a little. My work Mac is my arch nemesis, but it serves me absolutely right for pretending I could use one just so I could become a reviewer. "Conflicted" would be the politest of terms I would use to describe my relationship with Macs.
